Awareness on taking adulterated food items underscored

GAIBANDHA, Jun 29 (BSS): Discussants at a function on Saturday said much awareness among the people could help them abstain from taking adulterated food items to have sound health.
"A section of dishonest traders are making brisk business by selling formalin and carbide mixed fruits like mango, black berry, grape, apple, pine apple, litchi and date including tomato and fishes to the customers randomly", they said.
They made the observations while addressing a function on documentary film display in prevention of adulteration in food items at Bharatta Government Primary School under Shaghata upazila in the district on Saturday afternoon.
Advocacy unit of RDRS Bangladesh, a reputed non-government organisation, organised the function under its core programme with the financial support of Church of Sweden.
With head teacher of the school AKM Abdur Rashid in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by programme manager of RDRS Bangladesh Porsia Rahman, district supervisor of School Feeding Programme Mamunur Rashid, field monitoring officer Sumona Begum and assistant teacher Nurun Nahar Begum.
Due to taking poison mixed fruits, vegetables and fishes the people particularly the children were being affected with long and short term bad impacts in their bodies, the speakers said.
