Sunday, 9 October 2011

RAJSHAHI, Oct 8 (BSS): Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad has called for objective and authentic reporting for welfare of the nation and its people. Besides, he has invited journalists to engage in a constructive criticism of the government but not based on biased and wrong information which always mislead the peace-loving people. The minister made these observations while sharing views with journalists in local Circuit House conference hall here on Friday night. Mayor of Rajshahi AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, were present on the occasion. The minister said in the current information and technology based modern era the role of journalists is inevitable for taking the nation forward along with supplementing the government's pro- people projects. He said the government has passed the Right to Information Act-2009 in the first session of the current parliament. But, unfortunately, he said this long cherished demand was ignored by the previous government. Azad added that the Information Commission has been formed to ensure right to information through the law as the present government believes in the free flow of information. Minister Azad said the government is very much sincere about freedom of expression. For this reason, the law relating to the harassment of journalists has been repealed.
