Azad urges all to join building non-communal country

Friday, 15 October 2010

Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad has urged all, irrespective of creed and colour, to work from their respective positions to build a non-communal, democratic and prosperous Bangladesh.
He made the call Thursday while addressing Hindu devotees during the celebration of Durga Puja organised by Banani-Gulshan Sarbajanin Puja Ujjapan Committee at Banani play ground in the city, reports BSS.
The minister said the united effort of all is needed to uphold country's non-communal and democratic heritage and establish an equity-based society removing social disparity.
Without this, it is not possible to attain the goal of building a "Sonar Bangla" (golden Bangladesh), he added.
Abul Kalam Azad said the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is pledge-bound to uphold the spirit of liberation war and maintain communal harmony.
The government is sincere to protect religious rights of all as guaranteed by the constitution, he said.
Referring to the law and order situation, the information minister said the number of 'puja mandaps' has increased this year.
The government has deployed adequate police and RAB personnel at all sites to maintain law and order during the festival.
The minister also requested all concerned to inform the local administration, if any untoward incident takes place during the Puja.
