Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid Thursday said that the government has introduced a charter of changes in the country's Madrasah education system by launching Bachelor (Honours) degree in Kamil and Fazil Madrasahs in the country, reports UNB.
"This is a milestone in developing the country's Islamic education," he said while addressing the course launching ceremony of Bachelor (Honours) degree for Madrasahs at the National Academy for Educational Management (NAEM) auditorium in the city Thursday.
Nahid formally inaugurated the Bachelor (Honours) courses which will be introduced in 31 Kamil and Fazil Madrasahs across the country under Islami University (IU).
Chaired by IU vice-chancellor Prof Dr M Alauddin, the function was addressed, among others, by IU Pro-vice-chancellor Prof M Kamal Uddin, director general of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Directorate Prof M Noman Ur Rashid, NAEM director general Prof Shamsur Rahman and Prof M Yusuf.
Addressing the session, Nahid said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given special emphasis on developing and modernising the country's Madrasah education.
"The government has already turned 30 Madrasahs into modern institutes. The vocational and technical course was introduced among 100 Madrasahs and the government also removed salary discrimination of Madrasah teachers," he said.
He said that the Madrasah education will go ahead due to introduction of the Bachelor (Honours) degree in Madrasahs.
Nahid said that the qualitative change in country's Madrasah education will be brought through establishing an Islamic-affiliated university in the country. He sought cooperation from all to ensure the quality of Madrasah education.
The government, for the first time, has introduced the Bachelor (Honours) courses in 31 Madrasahs in the country this year. The subjects of the courses are Al Quran and Islamic Studies, Al Hadith and Islamic Studies, Dawah and Islamic Studies, Arabic Language and Literature and Islamic History and Culture.
