Jatiya Sangsad Election 2024

Backed by neighbouring country, AL disregards public opinions

Says Rizvi

FE REPORT | Sunday, 24 December 2023

Ruling party Awami League (AL) is disregarding public opinions with the backing of neighbouring country (India), BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Saturday.
He also viewed that when the ruling party, which is by no means connected with the people, does everything to cling to power through a doctored election it is a matter of shame for the independent-sovereign Bangladesh.
The party leader came up with the remarks while taking part in a leaflet distribution campaign in the city's Rampura and Shahjahanpur areas on Saturday morning.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and other like-minded political parties continued their countrywide three-day mass contact programme in support of the party's noncooperation movement ahead of its countrywide blockade today (Sunday).
They requested the country people to boycott the next 'dummy' national election to be held on January 7.
Mr Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also said the people of the country and the democratic world have already been aware that Sheikh Hasina is set to conduct a 'farcical election'.
"This has already been termed as a dummy election," he said.
During mass contact programme in the city's National Press Club area, BNP national standing committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan warned that the government will be dethroned through the ongoing non-cooperation movement.
"The BNP men will remain vigilant on the streets until those in power are thrown away," he said.
Criticising the government, that boasts of its achievement in developing infrastructures, the BNP leader said if they have made real progress in the country why they are afraid to create favourable situation for holding a free and fair election.
The party announced non-cooperation movement in the last week. The BNP and like-minded political parties will observe nationwide blockade today.
