BADC procures 961 tonnes Boro seed last FY

Our Correspondent brBRAHMANBARIA, Sept 01 Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) procured 961 tonnes of Boro seeds in the growing years of 2007-2008 successfully. Its target was 958 tonnes. br BADC Brahmanbaria Contract Growers Zone has three units-Madhabpur (Hobigonj), Brahmanbaria and Comilla unit. It has 250 registered growers who get Tk 27 per kilogramme of Boro seed. br BADC paid Tk 1,26,90,000 for 470 tonnes of Boro seed on June 30, 2008 and Tk 14,85,000 for 55 tonnes Boro seed on August 20 last to 125 growers. brBut BADC has not yet paid Tk 1,17,72,000 for 436 tonnes Boro seed owed to another 125 growers. br Most of the growers are very poor. If BADC does not pay the growers in proper time they face serious problems. Contract grower of Habla Uchcha scheme Md Jahir Uddin Ahmed told this correspondent that BADC was creating this setback for the past several years. brWhen FE correspondent contacted BADC Brahman-baria Zone Deputy Director Md Mujibur Rahman, he said, We are trying to pay their money as soon as possible. br Local conscious people and contract growers have urged the BADC to pay growers within 30 days of seed procurement every year in the interest of the country.
