BAEC chairman passes away

Dr Farid Uddin Ahmed, chairman of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC), died of a heart attack at LabAid Hospital in the city Sunday morning, reports BSS. He was 57. Dr Farid, also a freedom fighter, left behind his wife, a son and a daughter to mourn his death. Born on December 31 in 1954 in Kathalia Thana in Jhalakathi district, Farid joined the BAEC on January 4 in 1980 as a scientific officer. He was promoted to the post of chairman of the commission on September 24 in 2010. He had been making relentless efforts for implementation of the much-awaited Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and led Bangladesh delegation to a number of national and international meetings to this end. State Minister for Science and ICT Architect Yeafesh Osman expressed deep shock at the death of Farid Uddin Ahmed.
