Bangladesh Air Force deployed a 104-member-strong contingent codenamed BANAIR-1 under the United Nations Mission in the Central African Republic of Chad, continuing big strides in international peacekeeping, reports UNB.
An 80-member main body of the contingent led by Group Captain Abdul Motaleb Bablu left Dhaka for Chad by a UN-chartered plane Monday. BAF also deployed three Bell-212 helicopters in the mission dubbed MINURCAT.
Other members of the contingent have left for Chad by different flights since January 12.
Earlier, on January 7, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal SM Ziaur Rahman exchanged views with the contingent members and offered special munajat for success of this mission.
Two BANAIR contingents also completed their mission successfully in Kuwait and East Timor earlier.
"Besides, another two BANAIR contingents of 253 members and 5 MI-17 helicopters have been successfully discharging their duties in the Democratic Republic of Congo since 2003," ISPR said Tuesday.
