Bahrain calls for creation of global energy organisation

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 29 (Xinhua): Bahrain's Foreign Minister Khalid Bin Ahmed Bin Mohamed Al-Khalifa Saturday called for the establishment of a global energy organisation.
"Given their universal effects and implications, energy and its various sources are in need of a holistic, global approach," Khalid told the UN General Assembly.
"Yet, they are dealt with in a fragmented, piecemeal manner. This unsatisfactory situation leads us to suggest the establishment of a truly global energy organization," he said.
Citing data from the International Energy Agency, Al-Khalifa said that the world's energy needs could increase by 50 per cent by 2030, amid mounting pressure to mitigate the effects of climate change.
The new body would bring a joint international perspective to determining the role and usage of hydrocarbon energy, nuclear power, and new and renewable energy sources.
