Bail for Mirza Alamgir

A court in Dhaka granted bail to BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a vandalism case filed about one-and-half years ago. Waaz Kurni Khan Chowdhury, Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s court, granted the bail after the BNP leader surrendered before the court with petition in the morning. Police filed the case against Mirza Alamgir on charge of preventing the members of law-enforcement agencies from discharging their duties in Jatrabari area in the city during a nationwide hartal and blockade, enforced by the then BNP-led 18-party alliance (now 19-party combine) on December 9 in 2012. Although police did not mention Mirza Alamgir’s name in the first information report (FIR) but he was charge-sheeted in the case later. The court issued an arrest warrant against Mirza Alamgir in the vandalism case after charges were pressed against him in April 30, according to a news agency.
