While the High Court granted bail to three BNP leaders, the Supreme Court cancelled HC bail granted to five of its leaders in separate cases on Sunday. The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court scrapped bail granted by the High Court to five BNP leaders, including its acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. The Appellate Division bench, headed by Chief Justice M Muzammel Hossain, passed the order upon a petition filed the prosecution. The other leaders include BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas, its joint secretary general Amanullah Aman, Dhaka city unit member secretary Abdus Salam and acting secretary general of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Obaidul Haque Nasim. Of them, the bail of Mirza Fakhul was cancelled in one case while that of others in four cases each. The cases were filed with Ramna and Shahbagh police stations. On January 28 this year, the prosecution appealed to the Supreme Court for cancellation of the bail, according to a news agency.
