Bail petitions of top five BNP leaders rejected

A court here on Wednesday rejected the bail petitions of top five BNP leaders, including Barrister Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah, in three cases. The two others are BNP chairperson’s adviser Khandker Mahbub Hossain and her Special Assistant Shimul Biswas. Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Mohammad Jahurul Haque passed the order. Moudud, MK Anwar, Barrister Rafiqul Islam and Shimul Biswas were shown arrested in two cases filed with Motijheel Police Station for vandalism, torching of vehicles and attacking cops on May 6. On the night of November 8 last year, plainclothes police arrested Barrister Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah from the city’s Karwanbazar area as they came out of Sonargaon Hotel. The following day, Shimul Biswas was also arrested in front of BNP chairperson’s Gulshan residence. BNP leader Khandker Mahbub was shown arrested in a case filed with Ramna Police Station under the Explosives Substance Act filed on January 5, according to a news agency.
