The Bengali year 1416 has turned out to be a blessing for the local furniture industry with one of its major showcasing events coinciding with the New Year's eve.
"Baishakhi Bonanza" -- a term implying a certain percentages of discount on the prices of consumer items throughout the first month of Bengali Year has become a common feature in the local consumer market these days, with major furniture outlets being no exception.
This year, however, the Baishakhi offer for the big names in the local furniture market has extended beyond the showrooms, as the prime annual gala of household furniture "National Furniture Fair-2009" kicked off in the city just a day after the month-long festivity began.
"Usually, we experience a boom in sales during this time of the year," said Moinur Rahman Khan, Sales Executive of Otobi, a leader in the local furniture market, "cashing on in our month-long New Year offer."
"However, this time around, the staging of such a big event overlapping the month-long offer is likely to act as an extra bonus for us," he continued.
An icon in the local furniture market; Otobi has put on display 'assent and décor' among other things in this year's event. However, the typical price ranges of its showcased items do not exceed beyond Tk 48,840 after offering discounts of up to 15 per cent.
A full range sofa set at the Otobi pavilion is priced at Tk 37,000, coming down from Tk 47,000 after offering Baishakhi discount, while a double-bed is usually priced at Tk 23,760. There are two designs of dining wagon, which attracts most public attention according to the Otobi sales executive but the cheaper of the two with a price tag of Tk. 28,000 appears more affordable to the visitors.
