Bakhrabad Gas earns Tk 7.35b net profit

Bakhrabad Gas Systems Limited (BGSL) earned a net profit of Tk 7.35 billion (735.54 crore) during the year 2008-09.
This was disclosed at the 29th annual general meeting (AGM) of the company in the city recently, the company said in a statement Sunday.
Chairman of the board of directors of Bakhrabad Gas Systems Limited and Additional Secretary of Energy and Mineral Resources Division Syed Monjurul Islam presided over the meeting.
The statement also said, BGSL earned total revenue of Tk 1792.51 by selling 2880.59 million cubic metre of gas and paid Tk 3.93 billion (390.37 core) to the government ex-cheaquer.
The Company has surpassed its target set for pipeline construction and gas connection during the financial year of 2008-09. BGSL constructed a total of 155.12 kilometres of network pipeline during the year, against the target of 150 kilometres. BGSL provided a total number of 32,547 gas connections against the target of 25,000.
Since inception, the total length of pipeline stood at 6246.62 kilometre and cumulative gas connections stood at 4,66455 numbers.
Company has set a future target for constructing 150 kilometres Network pipeline and to providing 25,000 new gas connections in the next financial year. Keeping pace with present development trend, BGSL has taken initiative to facilitate gas supply to Karnaphuli and Korean EPZ at Chittagong, as well as supply of gas to small power plants in the private sector. Necessary steps are being taken to supply gas to proposed 150 MW Chandpur Power Plant of Bangladesh Power Development Board.
