The Balaka, a Bangladeshi restaurant in St Mary's Place in Scotland, scooped the prestigious prize in the Bangladesh Caterers' Association (BCA) special awards ceremony in London recently.
Held at the Hilton Park Lane, the event marked the 47h anniversary of the Association's establishment and rewarded the best Bangladeshi restaurant in the United Kingdom.
The Balaka, owned by Abdur Rouf, also won the Good Curry Guide's 'Best in Scotland' award in 1995, and 'Best in the UK' award in 1998.
The BCA is an umbrella organisation representing over 12,000 British-Bangladeshi restaurants in the UK and has been playing a vital role in promoting bilateral relation between Bangladesh and the Great Britain since its establishment.
Guests attending the prize giving event included Hillary Benn MP, secretary of state for environment, food and rural affairs, Ed Miliband MP, minister for Cabinet Office and chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, and Lord Neil Kinnock, former leader of Labour Party.
Bazlur Rashid, chairman of BCA, presided over the function.
Michael Rouf, son of Abdur Rouf, presently runs two family restaurants in the UK. Michael told the local journalists that he was delighted to return home with the prize.
