Balia-Warsi-Mirzapur Road opens to traffic

The Roads and Highways Department has opened for traffic the Balia-Warsi-Mirzapur Road and a bridge over the Bangshi river, aimed at easing communication between Dhaka and northern part of the country through Tangail.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader inaugurated the 3.5 kilometre road and 216 metre Bangshi bridge in Manikganj-Savar area at a function.
The newly-constructed road and bridge are likely to act as an alternative to the Savar-Chandra road that usually remains heavily gridlocked in Tangail for heavy pressure of vehicles in the northern part of the country, officials said.
They said the two-lane road will also reduce around 10 km diverting traffic of the Dhaka-Tangail road towards Dhamrai road to reach Tangail.
The 3.5 kilometre road and 216 metre bridge were constructed at a cost of Tk 90 millions and 175 millions respectively.
The minister said to construct the road and bridges, land accusation cost Tk 130 million.
Among others, additional chief engineer of RHD (Dhaka Zone) Abdus Sabur and superintendent engineer Sabujuddin Khan were present during the inauguration.
