NILPHAMARI, July 22: Fishing equipment made of bamboo are gradually disappearing from the rural areas of the northern region. This is due to scarcity of local fish in the entire region. This scarcity occurred due to indiscriminate use of pesticide and chemical fertilises in the field. Fishing equipments are traditional cottage industry of the country now which is also on the verge of extinction. Fishing equipment made of bamboo used to be made in the cottages of the rural poor people and those used to be sold in the rural huts and bazar.
Thousands of rural people were engaged in this cottage industry. Particularly in the rainy season demand of those cottage made products were very high.
Equipments such as golonga, Henga, Kholoi, Tepaai, Darki, Thosha, used to be found in every household of the villages. Rural people used to catch different kind of fish with those gadgets. But now a days this scenario have come to disappear as in the rainy season fishes are no longer available. Sources said use of pesticide should he restricted and government should take measures to safe guard local fish in order to revive bamboo based fishing equipments which is a traditional cottage industry of our country.
