Ban condoles loss of lives in cyclone Komen

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has expressed condolences for the loss of lives and destruction caused by severe floods triggered by heavy rains and cyclone Komen in several districts in southern Bangladesh. The UN chief underscored the fact that the United Nations stands ready to provide additional humanitarian support to the most vulnerable communities in Bangladesh at this critical time, according to a message received in Dhaka on Tuesday. “I would like to express my condolences to you and the people of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh for the loss of lives and destruction,” Ban said in a message to President Abdul Hamid. Ban noted that the efforts undertaken by the government to assist the hundreds of thousands of people affected by the calamity, according to UNB.
