Ban on swimming in Piyaing river at Jaflong

SYLHET, Aug 1 (UNB): The local administration imposed a ban on swimming in the Piyain river at Jaflong of Goainghat Upazila from Friday, following drowning of five tourists in the river Thursday afternoon.
Besides announcing the ban using mikes at market places, additional forces of police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Village Defence Party (VDP) have been deployed in the area to implement the ban.
Sylhet Deputy Commissioner (DC) M Shahidul Islam said it was very inspiring that a huge number of tourists came to Jaflong on the Eid holidays this year, but there was no other way but to impose the ban on swimming considering the safety of the tourists.
Goainghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) M Azizul Islam said they are making frequent announcement of the ban using mikes in the locality and additional forces of police, BGB and VDP have been deployed in the area.
On Thursday afternoon, five tourists drowned as a boat carrying them sank in the Piyain river at Jaflong.
