Bandarban land slip death toll rises to 7

The death toll in Bandarban hill slip has reached 7. Police, rescuers and local people said Saturday’s hill slide in Lama upazila, caused by heavy rains, buried six people alive, while another died after being rescued. The incident occurred below a hill at Lama’s Haspital Para early in the morning. Local administration chief Khaled Mahmud confirmed that death toll rose to 7 till Saturday afternoon. The fire service along with the locals conducted the rescue operation, which was called off in the afternoon. Four bodies were pulled out in the morning while two others were recovered in the afternoon. They have been identified as Amena Begum, 35, ‘Futu’, 10, Rozina Akter, 34, ‘Sazzad’, 5 ‘Bashir’, 70, and Fatema Akter, 8. Seventy-year-old Dulu Mia and ‘Arafat’, 15, were rescued from the debris but the teenager died later while being shifted to Chittagong from the Lama Upazila Health Complex, according to a news agency.
