Bandits swoop on inter-city train in city

Armed bandits swooped on an inter-city train near Tejgaon rail station in the city Thursday night and looted cash and valuables from passengers, leaving eight people injured, reports UNB.
Railway sources said eight bandits in masks got into a compartment of Karnaphuli Express coming from Chittagong as the train slowly moved into the station at about 10pm.
The robbers then looted cash, mobile phone sets and other valuables worth about Tk 0.15 million from the passengers of the compartment at gunpoint.
The criminals also beat up the passengers with iron roads as they tried to resist them, leaving eight people critically injured.
The bandits got down from the train near Malibagh rail crossing along with the booty as the train was moving slowly.
The passengers alleged that there was no security guard in the compartment.
The injured eight passengers-Ahad, Humayun Kabir, Shahidul, Shukur Khan, Faruk, Razan, Ripon and Monirul-were admitted to different city clinics and hospitals.
One of the injured, Ahad, a businessman of the city, filed a case with GRP thana in this connection.
