Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said on Tuesday Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman worked to establish a non-communal Bangladesh, reports BSS.
"Bangabandhu dreamt for a non-communal Bangladesh which reflects on the four fundamental principles-Secularity, Nationalism, Democracy and Socialism- of the 1972 constitution. Now Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is implementing the ideals of Bangabandhu," he said.
The minister came up with the comments at a programme titled "Towards the Birth Centenary of Bangabandhu and a harmonious Bangladesh" held at CIRDAP auditorium in the city organised by 'Sampriti Bangladesh', a platform working to promote secularism.
"After the assassination of Bangabandhu, provocative measures were taken to spread communalism. Militancy was pampered and patronised stately. But under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh is advancing rapidly upholding the spirit of liberation war," Kamal said.
While addressing the programme, State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hasan said Bangladesh is now a role model of development to the world.
"The liberation war did not take place to make a communal Bangladesh. We want to represent our country as a modern, developed and digitalised nation to the world," he added.
Former president of the National Press Club Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman, MP, Aroma Dutta, MP, Sampriti Bangladesh Member Secretary Mamun Al Mahtab Swapnil, former Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Professor Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan, former Secretary of Cultural Affairs Ministry Md Nasir Uddin Ahmed, among others, addressed the seminar with academic Shyamoli Nasrin Chowdhury in the chair.
