Bangabandhu struggled to achieve freedom for Bangalees: Tofail

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had struggled throughout his life for achieving freedom for the Bangalee nation and his March 7 speech inspired the Bangalees to be united for achieving independence, reports BSS.
"Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had to face imprisonment many times for establishing the rights of Bangalees and he prepared the nation through different movement for achieving independence in 1971,"he said.
The minister made the comments while speaking at a session of the Swarno Kishori National Convention-2017 at Sultana Kamal Mohila Krira Complex in the city on Tuesday.
Over 5,000 young girls participated in the programme.
Bangabandhu had two dreams, first of all achieving independence and the second economic emancipation for Bangalees, he said, adding that Bangalees achieved independence under the leadership of Bangabandhu and now his daughter Sheikh Hasina has been working for achieving economic emancipation for Bangladesh.
"Bangladesh is now on the way to be a lower middle income country . . . it will be a digital middle income country by 2021 under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," said the commerce minister.
