Wednesday, 18 March 2015

The 95th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed across the country on Tuesday with due respect and festivity, reports UNB.
The day was also observed as National Children's Day.
The day was a public holiday. The ruling Awami League, its associated bodies, different socio-cultural and political organisations observed the day with various programmes.
On March 17 in 1920, Bangladesh's architect was born in remote village Tungipara in Gopalganj district, then subdivision of Faridpur district.
Throughout his life of leadership, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman prepared the people of present-day Bangladesh to fight against exploitation and repression, first against the British colonial power, and then the Pakistani rulers that finally culminated in independent Bangladesh through nine months of Liberation War in 1971.
On the fateful night of August 15 in 1975, the great leader of the land was assassinated along with most members of his family by an army group.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid homage to the Father of the Nation by placing wreaths at his Mazar at Tungipara in Gopalganj marking his 95th birth anniversary.
Sheikh Hasina also attended a children's gathering, discussion and cultural programme at Bangabandhu Mausoleum Complex and inaugurated a book fair there.
Earlier, she placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the city.
