Bangabandhu's birth anniversary observed

RANGPUR, Mar 17 (BSS): The 90th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children's Day was observed Wednesday in Rangpur and adjoining northern districts by paying rich tributes in a befitting manner.
The day was a public holiday and it was observed with the theme 'Bangaban-dhur Janmodine Angikar, Shishurai Sonar Banglar Rupokar.'
Observance of the day was marked by fresh vows to pay due respects to Bangabandhu through realising his dreams of building a Sonar Bangla and by foiling all conspiracies being hatched repeatedly against the country and its people by the anti-liberation forces.
The district and Upazila administrations, Bangladesh Awami League and its front organisations, Bangladesh Shishu Academy, different socio-cultural and professional organisations chalked out elaborate programmes in observance of the day.
The programmes included placing of wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, children's gatherings and rallies, processions of underprivileged children, drawing, handwriting, essay and ready speech competitions, discussions and cultural functions, doa mahfil and special prayers.
In Rangpur, observance of the Day began in the morning by placing of wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Central Shaheed Minar by Deputy Commissioner BM Enamul Haque, leaders of AL and its front organisations, socio-political and other organisations.
The main discussion organised by the district administration, was held in the Rangpur Town Hall auditorium Wednesday noon with Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur BM Enamul Haque in the chair.
Former AL Lawmaker and veteran educationist Shah Mohammad Abdur Razzaque, convener of district Awami League Abul Mansur Ahmed, Treasurer of Begum Rokeya University Prof Mozammel Haque, senior AL leaders Shameem Talukder and Delwar Hossain Talukder, addressed.
Besides, leaders of AL and its front organisations including Shafiar Rahman Shafi, Begum Shafia Khanom, Acting Mayor of Rangpur municipality Idris Ali, General Secretary of Rangpur Workers' Party Nazrul Islam Hokkani, also spoke on the occasion.
Class seven students Rythom and Afrin Hossain Jeba delivered their emotional speeches narrating the life, deeds, sacrifices and dreams of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the jam-packed Town Hall auditorium.
Freedom fighters, children, students, government officials, teachers and heads of different educational institutions, leaders of AL and its front organisations, socio-cultural and political activists, artists and professionals were present.
The speakers recalled memories of Bangabandhu and discussed his life, works and character of standing for justice and fighting against repression and injustice, struggle for Independence and his unending love and sacrifice for the people.
They urged all to put in their maximum efforts, labour and dedication with patriotism to build a happy nation where its children would never starve and get all opportunities to flourish as worthy citizens with dignity.
They called upon all to remain united against the defeated and evil forces, who tried to destroy the country's independence by killing Bangabandhu along with most of his family members in 1975, and conspiracies are still being hatched.
Joint convener of Rangpur AL Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, President of Sammilito Sanskritik Jote Kazi Mohammad Junnoon and other senior socio- political leaders and activists distributed sweets among floating children at different areas of Rangpur.
