Bangabandhu’s portrait installed at JPC

A portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was installed at the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) in the city Saturday for the first time since the country's independence, reports UNB.
Prime Minister's media adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury unveiled the portrait on the ground floor of the Jatiya Press Club in the morning, marking the National Mourning Day and recalling the contributions of Bangabandhu to building the club.
Senior journalists Golam Sarwar, Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Jatiya Press Club President Shafiqur Rahman and journalist leaders were present on the occasion. A prayer session was also held after the opening of the portrait. Later, the journalist leaders placed wreaths at the Bangabandhu's portrait. Terming the installation of Bangabandhu's portrait a historic incident, Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman donated the land for the Jatiya Press Club.   
But, the Press Club authorities failed to install the portrait of Bangabandhu in the last 44 years after the country's independence despite repeated attempts taken earlier, Iqbal Sobhan remarked adding, "This is a shame for all."
He said now the journalist community together has made it successful and paid their homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, marking the National Mourning Day.
