Bangladesh an oasis of stability in an otherwise turbulent region, says foreign adviser

Foreign Adviser Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury said Friday the institution-building reforms of the Caretaker Government were designed to create a corruption-free, pluralist society where values of justice, equality and human rights would prevail, reports UNB.
"Bangladesh is an oasis of stability in an otherwise turbulent region," he said.
The foreign adviser was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session of the district conference 2008 of the Rotary International at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the city.
Iftekhar urged the nation to combine their endeavours in a manner acceptable to all to achieve these goals.
On the rice situation, he said: "You have all seen in the newspapers today the market is stabilising. Under the leadership of Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed the government has taken a number of decisions."
He added: "As you have already seen, we all, including the foreign ministry, are working relentlessly in a coordinated fashion to address the situation and to ensure that Bangladesh continues to progress along the path of development."
Personal Representation of the President of Rotary International Manjit S Sawhney, District Governor of Rotary Rafiq Ahmed Siddique, District Governor Elect 2008-09 Md Hafizullah, District Governor Nominee AKM Shamsul Huda and renowned artiste Mustafa Zaman Abbasi also spoke on the occasion.
