Bangladesh Army deploys new contingent in Congo

Bangladesh Army is going to deploy a 180-member new contingent BANENGINEER-1 of Engineer Corps with the Bangladeshi Contingent already deployed at United Nations Organisations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC), said an ISPR press release.
This Contingent includes 14 officers and 166 soldiers of different ranks.
Earlier, a 14-member advance team, including officers and other ranks led by Commanding Officer Lt Co Zakir Ahmed left Dhaka on January 17 for Congo.
Main body of the contingent of 166 members, including nine officers and 157 soldiers of different ranks of the BANENGINEER-1 led by Maj Mohammad Arifur Rahman left Dhaka for Congo by a UN chartered plane Monday.
Director of Army Headquarters Engineer Directorate Brig Gen Md Shahidur Rahman saw them off at Zia International Airport (ZIA).
Bangladesh Army Contingent has been deployed in UN Peacekeeping Mission in Congo since 2003.
Bangladesh Army achieved confidence of Congo government and general public by discharging their duties in mitigating conflict with efficiency, professionalism and sincerity.
