Thursday, 21 June 2007

Bangladesh and Bahrain agreed to sign three agreements soon to boost bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
Besides, Dhaka also expects to send more skilled and semi-skilled workforce to the Gulf state where some 75,000 Bangladeshis are now working.
The understanding was reached during official talks between Adviser for Foreign Affairs Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury and visiting Bahrain's State Minister for Foreign Affairs Nezar Sadiq Al Baharna at the state guest house Padma in the city Wednesday, reports UNB.
The three agreements to be signed are avoidance of double taxation, investment protection and air services.
"We've made much progress on the agreements and these will be signed within this year", the foreign adviser told journalists after the nearly 45-minute talks.
He said they discussed ways to increase trade and investment between the two countries apart from sending skilled and semi-skilled manpower from Bangladesh.
"We've expressed our firm commitment to strengthening our political, economic and diplomatic relations", he added.
The Bahrain's state minister said: "We had very good discussions" covering bilateral, Middle East and international issues.
He said some agreements would be signed to promote trade and investment.
