Bangladesh beat Cambodia in opener

Bangladesh finally overcame win drought in international football when they beat Cambodia by a solitary goal in the group-A match of the AFC Challenge Cup qualifier on home ground at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka Sunday, reports UNB.
Striker Enamul Haq scored the all-important goal for the hosts in the 72nd minute with a gentle header from a handshake distance taking a head pass from Mishu, before Mamun Mia did the spadework at the right wing (1-0).
It was a second win for Bangladesh against Cambodia after a 2-1 win in the final round of the AFC Challenge Cup in 2006 at the same venue. Besides, the two sides played to a 1-1 draw in the Nehru Cup Football held in 2007 in New Delhi, India.
Bangladesh will play their second group match against a strong Myanmar squad Tuesday at 6 pm at the same venue.
In the day's match, the goal margin could have been little wider if some Bangladeshi forwards would not have missed the real scoring chances in the entire proceeding of the match.
Striker Enamul, the hero of the piece, missed some real scoring chances and failed to increase the team's margin.
Bangladesh came close to a score in the very 2nd minute as an Enamul close-range shot off Mishu's minus sailed harmlessly over the cross bar.
Enamul again got another scoring chance in the 14th minute as his placing shot from inside the danger zone after his teammate Mamunul Islam's shot came his way that was fisted by Cambodian custodian Kyaw Zain.
He squandered a third scoring chance in the 32nd minute when his powerful attempt from the vantage position off Mithun minus narrowly missed the target.
Cambodia got only a lone scoring chance in the 82nd minute to level the margin, but defender Wally Faisal who stood at the goal line brilliantly cleared Cambodian striker Kouch Sokumpheak's goal-bound header.

Myanmar blank Macau
In another match, Myanmar made a flying start in the AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers drubbing Macau by 4-0 goals in the opening match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka Sunday, reports UNB.
Defender Khin Maung Lwin, strikers Yaza Win Thein and Pyaye Phyo, and medio Myo Min Tun scored one goal each for the winners, which led the first half 2-0.
