Bangladesh Brand Forum (BBF) launched 'Marketers' Meet' in an informal knowledge exchange session at the auditorium of IBA (Institute of Business Administration), the University of Dhaka, Saturday, said a press release.
The Marketers' Meet, which will take place quarterly, has been designed to share recent brand and marketing thoughts and insights and find its relevance in Bangladesh context.
Syed Saad Andaleeb, professor and programme chair of Marketing, Penn State University, presented his thoughts on 'Building a Model for Service Excellence'.
Senior marketing managers from over 40 companies attended the discussion.
IBA was the knowledge partner of the Marketers Meet while Grameenphone was the platinum sponsor and CSB was the news partner.
Shariful Islam, convener, Bangladesh Brand Forum, said they will regularly organise such meet where in each session one expert will give a key-note speech on a certain topic. Later, the participants will discuss and hold debate on the issue to gain better perspective.
"Marketers Meet" will be aimed at providing a platform for marketing professionals to meet and share their thoughts, ideas and take inspiration from others," said Islam.
Syed Saad Andaleeb, the keynote speaker of the session, in his presentation has highlighted the matter that when tremendous growth in the service industries and value creation worldwide is on, the opportunities in services are untapped in Bangladesh's tourism, transportation, IT services, hospitals, interpreter services, etc. Its contribution to GNP has not been assessed yet.
He said professional service needs demand for new concepts (medical tourism) and approaches as these industries become increasingly competitive and as professional standards change.
"To build excellence in service in Bangladesh we need industry-academy partnership and continuous research on service needs, and service culture ought to be a national goal supported by various organisations and the education system. Structures of society - the feudalistic mind-set - will be a barrier that needs to be broken," said Andaleeb.
M Z Mamun, director of IBA, Zafar I Khan, director of marketing of CSB, and Shariful Islam, convener of Bangladesh Brand Forum, and Brandzeal, CEO, were also present at the discussion.
