Bangladesh businessman shot dead in S Africa

A Bangladeshi businessman was gunned down by miscreants in his shop in Bloemfontien area of Free State province in South Africa on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Masud, 35, son of Hazi Mofiz Ullah, a resident of Betuadev village under Begumganj upazila in Noakhali district. Masud had several business establishments in Buloban city. Deceased’s brother Harun-ur-Rashid said he was talking to his brother Masud around 10pm over mobile phone and heard gunfire at one stage from Masud’s end and then he did not get any response from his brother. After few minutes, their relative Sahab Uddin from South Africa told Harun over phone that miscreants shot Masud in the head, killing him on the spot. The assailants also looted his shop. Harun said Masud along with his family went to South Africa in October 2004 and was looking after his business there, according to a news agency.
