Bangladesh dominated Ctg Test: Imrul

Saturday, 25 July 2015

Bangladesh batsman Imrul Kayes says that the Tigers were disappointed at missing out on the fourth and fifth day’s play, as he felt the hosts were in a better position than South Africa in the Chittagong Test. Bangladesh were still ahead by 17 runs, with South Africa batting on 61 for no loss in the 2nd innings when rain forced early stumps on Thursday afternoon. An entire day being wiped out all but ended South Africa's chances of forcing a result; the visitors would have to compile a big total and take 10 wickets all in the space of 90 overs if they were to push for a win. Bangladesh, on the other hand, have played some of their best cricket in recent months, and made their highest ever Test score against South Africa in the first innings at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. “Obviously, because Bangladesh played really good cricket as a team,” said the left-handed batsman and occasional wicketkeeper who plays for Khulna division. "Overall, had there been a five-day game we would have had a positive result because we dominated this Test quite well. I think we are unlucky that it didn’t happen. I think this is a positive side for Bangladesh cricket. The fact that we played consistently for a long time, I think that is a good sign for us and a big achievement for us,” Imrul who made his first-class debut in 2006 and Test debut in November 2008. Imrul was called up for the third One Day International between Bangladesh and New Zealand in Chittagong in 2006. Imrul was also Bangladesh’s leading run-scorer in the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011, with 188 runs at an average of 37.60. During the tournament, he produced two Man-of-the-Match performances, striking fifties against England and the Netherlands to help Bangladesh to victory on each occasion, according to a news agency.
