Friday, 5 November 2010

With a high hope of playing in the second round, a 20-member Bangladesh Under-23 football team leaves here for China Thursday midnight to take part in the 16th Asian Games to be held in the Chinese city of Guangzhou on November 7-25, reports UNB.
Addressing a pre-departure press conference at the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) conference room Thursday afternoon, both the captain and coach of the team are found determined to play "fighting football" for entire 90 minutes of a match.
Bangladesh skipper Aminul Haque said: "We'll fight equally during the entire 90 minutes against our opponents. If everything goes well, we hope to accomplish something good."
He added: "We've been playing good football in the last two or three years… we want to keep the consistency in the Asian Games.
Aminul, the country's number one custodian, said they would give their best and play positive football.
Bangladesh will miss the services of three injured booters - left back Waly Faisal, medio Atiqur Rahman Meshu and Zahid Hossain - in the opening match against Uzbekistan.
Bangladesh's head coach, Croatian Robert Rubcic, said they are now thinking of the first match and think of the remaining matches later.
The head coach said his team comprised both young and some experienced booters. "I expect a very fast soccer (from them)."
This will be the first assignment for Rubcic as Bangladesh coach, who took charge of the national team in September.
Bangladesh has been placed in Group E along with UAE, Uzbekistan and Hong Kong.
Bangladesh will start their Asian Games campaign against strong Uzbekistan on November 7, play UAE on November 9, both at the Yingdongs Stadium and face Hong Kong in their 3rd and last group match on November 11 at the Haudu Stadium. All the matches will be held at 2 pm (BST).
