Bangladesh face Pakistan today

Sunday, 6 December 2009

Fresh from their comfortable win against Bhutan, hosts Bangladesh will be looking to sealing their semifinal berth as they face Pakistan today (Sunday), who are yet to recover from their defeat against Sri Lanka, reports BSS.
The Bangabandhu SAFF Championship match of Group B will kick off at the Bangabandhu National Stadium at 7 pm.
In the two SAFF championship rivalries between the two countries, Bangladesh had won on both occasions-one in 1999 in Goa with a margin of 4-0 and the other a 1-0 victory in Karachi in 2005.
Bangladesh booters looked in an impressive form yesterday with an overwhelming 4-1 win over Bhutan while Pakistan looked pathetic if the finishing is concerned as they lost to Sri Lanka 0-1 despite dictating most of the proceedings.
A win for Bangladesh will confirm their berth in the semifinals with a match in hand while Pakistan will be in a tremendous pressure as they will need at least a draw to stay in contention for the semifinals.
The formidable striking force of Bangladesh comprising Emily and Enamul, Ujjal and Mamunul in the midfield well supported by the overlapping of Nasir and Waly Faisal down the flanks forms a lethal combination.
Pakistan on the other hand looked forward to the skills of Arif Mehmood and Adnan Farook in the front with Shabir Khan and substitute Rias Ashraf providing power in the middle.
Coaches of the teams-Shahidur Rahman Shantoo of Bangladesh and George Kottan of Pakistan-said at a pre-match briefing that both sides would be looking forward to winning today (Saturday).
