Bangladesh human rights situation alarming in 2014: ASK

Wednesday, 31 December 2014

Human-rights organisation Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) has described the human rights situation of 2014 as ‘worrisome’. It held ‘state-sponsored terrorism’, ‘forced disappearance’ and ‘political violence’ mainly responsible for the disturbing situation.
Referring to the torture on ethnic minorities before the last parliamentary elections, the organisation said most of the incidents took place during the BNP-led alliance’s movement waged to foil the polls. ASK Executive Director Sultana Kamal focused on the law and order and human rights situation of the last one year at a press conference held at Dhaka Reporters Unity auditorium on Wednesday. In her written speech, she said: “The number of extrajudicial killings in the name of crossfire, gunfight, exchange of fire and encounter, and tortures and murders in custody of law enforcement agencies increased in 2014 over the previous year”, according to a news agency
