Bangladesh is haven of corruption: ACC chairman

Anti-Corruption Commi-ssion chairman Lt Gen (retd) Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury Saturday described the country as a haven of corruption saying that the vice has been the cause of miseries to crores of people, reports UNB.
"The country is now a sanctuary of corruption. It's corruption that causes miseries to crores of people," he told a discussion organised marking the 24th death anniversary of MAG Osmani, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces during the Liberation War in 1971.
Terming rampant corruption as a disaster, he said this man-made catastrophe easily beats any natural one.
Paying rich tributes to Osmani, the ACC chairman said the war is on to eradicate the ghost of corruption.
Speaking on the occasion, Foreign Adviser Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury said the wind of change is blowing across the country.
Presided over by Syeda Masuda Khwaja, the discussion was held at Osmani auditorium. It was addressed, among others, by former Advisers of the caretaker government Mainul Islam Chowdhury, CM Shafi Sami and Sultana Kamal.
