Bangladesh karate team rocked the 11th SA Games with an explosion of four gold medals surpassing all the expectations at the Mirpur Indoor Stadium in the city, reports BSS.
Bangladesh never had a haul of four gold medals in a day from a single discipline in the SA Games history.
The brave hearted karatekas of the country rose to the occasion overpowering all the other sub-continental competitors establishing the supremacy of the hosts.
Among the seven gold medals of the day Bangladesh karatekas grabbed four to stun the sports fraternity. It was really astonishing that the karatekas bagged four gold medals, one silver and two bronzes to write a new episode of success story.
Joy U Pru Marma the girl from Bandarban ignited the explosion in the morning winning the individual kata. Mariam Khatun Bipasha flooded the arena with unprecedented delight grabbing the gold of -45 kg kumite. Mariam outplayed Valena of India and Zohrah of Pakistan.
The individual successes inspired the team and they followed suit.
First it was the turn of the females to erupt the volcano of celebration. Bangladesh team comprising Munni Khanam, U Sainu Marma and Joy U Pru Marma arrived as the invincible team in the womens's kata to topple Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
When the females were flying in the sky with unprecedented accomplishment the male teammates appeared in the scenario. Bangladesh team comprising Syed Nuruzzaman, Hasan Khan Sun and Hossain Khan Moon were the ultimate supermen. They outplayed Sri Lanka and Nepal on their way to creating history.
However, it was a disappointment for Iftekhar Hossain Parvez the top rated karateka of the country who finished winning the silver in the men's individual kata.
Joy U Pru Marma was ecstatic with her sparkling feat. 'I am the national champion of the event for the last seven years, I thought that the time has arrived to win international title, I did it for the country' said Joy U Pru who spent her childhood in a Bandarban missionary.
Sun and Moon the brothers dedicated the accomplishment to the sports arena of the country. 'We proved that karate also can lift the image of the country, with the proper build up we look forward to bringing more in the future', said Sun.
Masum Parvez Rubel, the president of the karate federation, focused upon the training provided by Japanese coach Masayoshi Kagawa. 'The Japanese coach's commitment and sincerity in the training was incredible and the players have benefited greatly; we believed that we will win gold medals and we did it', said Rubel who also is a celebrated actor.
