Bangladesh lose first T20 against South Africa
Sunday, 5 July 2015
After two great series against Pakistan and India, Bangladesh began the one against South Africa poorly, losing the opening T20 match by 52 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital Sunday.
South Africa was at 148/4 at the end of the first innings, while Bangladesh ran out of wickets at 18.5 overs claiming only 96 runs.
Like the Proteas, the Tigers lost their openers early -- Tamim Iqbal (5) and Saumya Sarkar (7) went back in successive overs, skying catches trying to play big shots too early.
Shakib Al Hasan (26) and Musfiqur Rahim (17) steadied the innings with some sensible hitting before the latter fell, holing out in the deep to Jean-Paul Duminy with Bangladesh at 50 for 3.
Sabbir Rahman (4) fell to a brilliant caught behind effort by keeper Quinton de Kock off Duminy to a needless reverse sweep while Nasir Hossain (1) departed soon after playing straight to short cover off Aaron Phangiso.
Losing half the side at a mere 57, Bangladesh never recovered as the asking rate began to climb.
When Shakib fell holing out to Parnell in the deep to David Wiese, the Tigers were clearly looking down the barrel.
