Former champions Bangladesh made early exist from the 5th SAFF Championship losing to hosts Sri Lanka by 0-1 goal in their do-or-die last Group B engagement at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo Sunday, reports UNB.
With the day's feat, Sri Lanka smartly reached the semifinal of the eight-nation meet as group champions at the coffin of three times runners-up Bangladesh and the champions of 2003.
Sri Lanka secured seven points to reach the last four with unbeaten run while Bangladesh completed their SAFF campaign with just two points without any win in three group matches.
The match was in goalless position during the first half.
Bangladesh, which fought equally with hosts Sri Lanka throughout the match, conceded the only goal in the 71st minute.
In the day's other Group B match, Bhutan earned a surprising 3-1 victory over Afghanistan to book a seat for the semifinal with four points.
