Bangladesh make winning start in SAFF U-16 Championship

Bangladesh U-16 Women's Football team made a good start in the four- nation SAFF U-16 Women's Championship 2024, beating hosts Nepal by 2-0 goals at the ANFA Complex in Lalitpur on Saturday afternoon, report agencies.
Bangladesh scored both the goals in the first half.
In the proceeding, Bangladesh was ahead than Nepal in ball possession and attack. The touring side took the lead following a combined attack in the 24th minute. Sathi Munda provided a small pass to Sauravi Akanda Prity inside the danger zone and she made no mistake to send the ball to the net with a perfect placing shot.
Prity doubled the lead from a spot kick in the 31st minute. Referee awarded the spot kick in favor of Bangladesh as Nepalese goalie fouled one of the Bangladeshi players inside the danger zone. Prity made no mistake to convert the spot kick.
Bangladesh, who won the title of the SAFF championship in 2017.
After the match, Head Coach of Bangladesh team AKM Saiful Bari Titu expressed his satisfaction over the match
In a post match press conference Saturday afternoon Bangladesh coach said "As a first match, the performance was okay, but a lot of improvement to be done, specially, the chances we have created, we should score more goals".
In the remaining league basis matches, Bangladesh will play their giant rivals India on March 05 and will meet Bhutan on March 08 at the same time and same venue.
Top two teams will play in the final on March 10.
Earlier, India also made a flying start crushing Bhutan by 7-0 goals in the tournament opener at the same venue Friday afternoon.
Shveta Rani, Pearl Fernandes, Anushka Kumari scored two goals each while Anwita Raghuraman netted the remaining goal for India.
