Bangladesh, Mauritius keen to improve relations

Bangladesh and Mauritius, an East African country, have agreed to further improve their relations through exchange of high-level visits. Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, now in Mauritius, met President of Mauritius Ameenah Gurib-Fakim in the State House Port Louis on Wednesday, and discussed the issue. They both referred to the excellent bilateral ties between the two countries. The Foreign Minister conveyed greetings of Bangladesh President to Mauritian President and also invited her to visit Bangladesh, according to the Foreign Ministry in Dhaka. Mahmood Ali discussed the contribution of Bangladesh workforce, now figuring 22,000, to Mauritius economy. The Foreign Minister apprised the President of his visit to a CMT Spinning Mill owned by Chinese entrepreneurs immediately after his arrival on Wednesday where he met 1200 Bangladeshi women workers. The discussion covered the prospects of collaboration with IORA in deep sea exploration against the backdrop of maritime verdicts, recent strides in shipbuilding, fisheries, aqua culture and marine biotechnology. The Bangladesh High Commissioner to Mauritius along with his wife and other mission officials were present. Mahmood Ali will also meet the Prime Minister of Mauritius to put further impetus to the bilateral relations, according to a news agency.
