Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni Wednesday said Bangladesh has been recognized as a role model in the outside world due to its achievements in different sectors including agriculture, food security and climate change, reports BSS.
"Bangladesh was known as a terrorist, militant and corrupt country even two years ago. But it has been recognized now as a dignified nation in the world stage by rooting out these dreadful menaces," she told a discussion at the National Press Club.
The foreign minister also said Bangladesh's social safety net programme was highly appreciated by G-20 nations. "The leaders of the group think that the programme could be a role model for them," she said.
Digital Bangladesh Forum arranged the discussion on 'Bangabandhu's Sonar Bangla and Today's Digital Bangladesh'.
With the organisation president MKMH Rana in the chair, the discussion was also addressed, among others, by State Minister for Health Dr Capt (retd) Majibur Rahman Fakir, General Secretary of the Sector Commanders Forum Lt Gen (retd) Harun-or-Rashid and Jubo League Joint Secretary Advocate Kazi Nazibullah Heeru.
General Secretary of Swadhinata Shikkhak Parishad Dr Wahiduzzaman Chand presented the keynote paper at the function.
The foreign minister said Bangladesh was never a 'bottomless basket'. "Those who did not accept Bangladesh's independence dubbed it so with a view to tarnishing the country's image," she said.
