Thursday, 13 May 2010

Bangladesh made a frustrating 2-2 draw with Hong Kong in their third do or die match of the Robi Asian Games Qualifying Hockey at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium Wednesday, reports UNB.
With the day's debacle, Bangladesh's hope of reaching the final round in the Asian Games Hockey has become uncertain as they secured only four points from three matches.
Earlier, Bangladesh made a flying start in the meet beating Thailand 8-1, but they lost their second match to Chinese Taipei 5-7.
In the day's match, Krishna Kumar and Maksud Alam Habul scored for Bangladesh while Christopher James and Bal Harinder Singh scored for Hong Kong.
The match was locked 1-1 in the first half.
Krishna Kumar put Bangladesh ahead in the 16th minute off a Nannu pass that came his way via Mimo (1-0).
Christopher James restored the parity for Hong Kong in the 29th minute (1-1).
Bal Harinder Singh took the lead for Hong Kong in the 47th minute from a penalty stroke (2-1) amid frustration of the home crowd.
Bangladesh escaped defeat as Maksud Alam Habul fired the Hong Kong net in the 55th minute by a return hit when a Rana attempt came his way after the abortive clearance bid by an opponent defender (2-2)
In another match, Chinese Taipei made a surprising 5-5 draw with lowly Thailand at the same venue in this (Wednesday) afternoon.
In the day's other fixture, Oman also split points with Singapore in a 1-1 draw at the same venue.
