Bangladesh policy will not change: Saran
Monday, 7 April 2014
India’s policy and interest towards Bangladesh would not change even if there is a change of regime in New Delhi after the elections, which started from Monday, its high commissioner in Dhaka has said. Pankaj Saran on Monday said relationships between the two neighbours depend “a great deal on what serves our mutual interest”. “….interest doesn’t really change with the government,” he said delivering a lecture on India and its relations with Bangladesh at the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS). The envoy was replying to a question on whether the relation with Bangladesh’s ruling Awami League-led government would remain same if BJP comes to power in India. Bangladesh-India relations witnessed a whole range of engagements in the last five-years when Awami League and Indian Congress Party, who enjoyed historical relations with AL since 1971 when Bangladesh was born, ruled their respective countries, according to a news agency.
