RAJSHAHI, Dec 27: The state-run Bangladesh Post Office incurred Tk 3.59 billion net loss in the last three years.
Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Post Office Mobasser ur Rahman disclosed the figure while inaugurating a training course as the chief guest organised for the postmen at the local postal academy recently.
Bangladesh Post Office has also been running on deficit for the last one and a half decades, he pointed out.
Speaking on the occasion, the DG said even one and a half decades ago people from all walks of life had faith and dependency on the services of post offices.
Due to various reasons, people were now relying more and more on the privately owned courier services though those were costlier than the postal services, he pointed out.
Moreover, due to introduction of mobile phone, Internet service and fax, transaction of letters among people had decreased though transaction of official documents of various business organisations had increased, he mentioned.
We were trying our best to regain our lost image, he added.
The DG also said that they were designing a number of packages to regain the lost image of the organisation and to make the services of the post office quicker.
The programme includes training for the postmen, automation of the postal services, ad-mail system and offering the postal services through various agencies.
