Bangladesh security should be discussed in comprehensive way: Iftekhar

Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury Sunday stressed the need for discussion on Bangladesh's security issue in a comprehensive way, reports BSS.
Dr Choudhury made the observation while speaking as the chief guest at a Victory Day commemorative seminar on "Security of Bangladesh: Contemporary Perspective," organised by Bangladesh Institute of Strategic Studies (BISS) at its auditorium in the city Sunday.
He said: "We must do so in the light of the entire gamut of multi- dimensional sources of threat that the world confronts."
Former adviser of the caretaker government Maj Gen (retd) Moinul Hussain Chowdhury presided over the seminar and Professor M Shahiduzzaman and ambassador Shahed Akhter, Principal, Foreign Service Academy presented two papers.
Major General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, Director General of BISS gave the address of welcome while Research Director of BISS Dr Abdur Rob Khan and former ambassador M Anwar Hashim spoke on the occasion.
The foreign adviser said the government attaches importance to stabilizing Bangladesh's relations with its neighbouring countries, including immediate neighbour India with whom "we want to live in friendship and concord, but clearly as a distinct entity."
Dr Iftekhar said attracting foreign investments, negotiating a favourable trade regime ourselves within the WTO, playing a proactive role within the UN system, supporting UN peacekeeping and peace- building operations and propagating Bangladeshi culture abroad are some other priorities of the government.
