Thursday, 20 September 2007

Bangladesh sought United States (US) assistance in releasing Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC) employee Nurul Islam who was kidnapped in Afghanistan recently.
Adviser for Foreign Affairs Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury made the request during a meeting with US Deputy Assistant Secretary John Gastright at the Foreign Ministry office in the city Wednesday, reports UNB .
"I have requested him to see whether it will be possible for US authorities to help securing the release of Nurul Islam", the foreign adviser said.
He said the government has initiated a four-pronged policy to secure the release of BRAC Area Manager Nurul Islam, kidnapped in Afghanistan on September 15.
Chowdhury said he also talked to Pakistan authorities after his talks with the Afghan foreign minister for his release.
Nurul Islam was kidnapped within days of killing of another BRAC employee named Abdul Alim in Afghanistan.
