Monday, 8 November 2010

Bangladesh under-23 booters found Uzbekistan a tough nut to crack as they lost 3-0 in their first match in the 16th Asian Games at Guangzhou at Yingdong Stadium Sunday, reports BSS.
A telephonic message received at BFF Sunday by assistant Saiful Bari Titu said Bangladesh opted for an ultra defensive posture not allowing the Uzbeks to infiltrate inside the Bangladesh box.
However, in the 29th minute a defensive outside the dee box allowed Turaiev to long distance fierce shot which never gave Bangladesh goalie Himel any chance.
In the 42nd minutes Uzbek left out cross saw Ahmedov made no mistake to make it 2-0.
In the 81st minute defender Reza's mistake enabled Islamonov to make it 3-0 for Uzbekistan.
Tito further added that Bangladesh players in comparison to their superior rival looked lethargic and slow and the defensive posture allowed Uzbeks to dominate the match.
Bangladesh started their Aian Games football journey for the first time at Bangkok and apart from 1994 and 1998 participated in all the other editions till 2006 at Doha .
They have recorded only two victories out of the 17 matches that they played in the Games. The first win was against Malaysia when they won by 2-1 in 1982 and defeated Nepal 1-0 in 1986 these remained the only success of the Bangladesh football team.
Bangladesh's Croatian coach Robert Rubcic before leaving Bangladesh, hoped for a place in second round now it looks a far gone conclusion.
Bangladesh plays their second match against UAE on November 9 at the same venue at 2pm.
