Wednesday, 10 October 2007

Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury said Bangladesh as chairman of the Group of LDCs will lead the debates in the international economic negotiations for greater aid, investment and market access, reports UNB.
"While to be leader of a group of 50 countries is a great honour, we also see this as a great responsibility," he told a press briefing on the outcome of the country's participation in the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Chowdhury who came back to the city Monday said Bangladesh has got the capabilities to respond to the huge demand and uphold the legitimate interest of the least developed countries (LDCs).
The adviser said multilateral diplomacy is an essential ingredient of Bangladesh foreign policy and, naturally, the United Nations (UN) is nucleus in this connection.
As a country focused on development, he said, Bangladesh needs a stable and peaceful world order, and "we believe this can be achieved through an international rule of law, under the aegis of the UN where all countries are represented."
